Pesquisa do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul - FAPERGS / This work aims to contribute to studies on the subject of volunteering, given the importance that the movement is gaining in Brazil, especially after the period following the re-democratization of the country. At first, it was analyzed the development of the activity in Brazil and its social implications, particularly as regards the qualifications of social ties in the face of growing individualism. So, given the importance of this activity, in a second step, still in a theoretical way, the analysis focused on the social actions and how they are produced. For this purpose, it was used the theory of Alfred Schutz action. It is understood, in this study, the engagement action in volunteering as a social action according to Schutz. This study sought to understand how the reasons and motives for engaging in volunteering are built through the life experiences of social actor, seeking to reveal the because motives (or biographic motives). This study conducted five interviews with people who volunteer in institutions of civil society, of which the analysis and presentation that were oriented by the method of Narrative Biographical developed by Fritz Sch?tze and perfected by Gabriele Rosenthal, focused on one of them. Empirical research with Fernanda has revealed that the engagement action in volunteering is constructed biographically through the relationship between the biographically determined situation and the world of common sense. Biographical experiences both change the interpretations of social actor on the world and guide him in the decision making process to engage in voluntary activity. In addition, we glimpse a singular biographical path, composed of four main biographical moments, interconnected, which, added to a context where the culture of volunteering is widespread, favored Fernanda on the occasion of his decision to become a volunteer. The biographee managed to turn the disease and suffering in personal growth factor, through the contact and socialization in a spiritist universe of meaning, and that was determinant for her in order to prepare her action project. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal contribuir com os estudos sobre a tem?tica do voluntariado, em face da import?ncia que o movimento vem ganhando no Brasil, sobretudo ap?s o per?odo que se seguiu a redemocratiza??o do pa?s. Foi analisado em um primeiro momento o desenvolvimento da atividade no Brasil e suas implica??es sociais, sobretudo no que se refere ? qualifica??o dos la?os sociais em face do individualismo crescente. Ent?o, tendo em vista a import?ncia desta atividade, em um segundo momento a analise recaiu, ainda de maneira te?rica, sobre as a??es sociais e como s?o produzidas. Valeu-se para tanto, da teoria da a??o de Alfred Schutz. Entende-se, neste estudo, a a??o de engajamento no voluntariado como uma a??o social ? maneira do referido autor. Este trabalho buscou compreender como as raz?es e os motivos para o engajamento no voluntariado s?o constru?dos atrav?s das experi?ncias de vida do ator social, buscando com isso revelar os motivos porqu? (ou motivos biogr?ficos). Neste estudo foram realizadas cinco entrevistas com pessoas que realizam atividade volunt?ria em institui??es da sociedade civil, das quais a an?lise e a apresenta??o, que foram orientadas segundo o m?todo da Narrativa Biogr?fica, desenvolvido por Fritz Sch?tze e aperfei?oado por Gabriele Rosenthal, recaiu sobre uma delas. A pesquisa emp?rica com Fernanda nos revelou que a a??o de engajamento no voluntariado ? constru?da biograficamente atrav?s da rela??o que existe entre a situa??o biograficamente determinada e o mundo de sentido comum. As experi?ncias biogr?ficas tanto modificam as interpreta??es do ator social sobre o mundo, como o orientam na tomada de decis?o no sentido de engajar-se no voluntariado. Ademais, vislumbramos um caminho biogr?fico singular, composto de quatro momentos biogr?ficos principais, interconectados, e que, somados a um contexto onde a cultura sobre o voluntariado ? amplamente difundida, favoreceram Fernanda por ocasi?o de sua decis?o de se tornar uma volunt?ria. A biografada conseguiu transformar a doen?a e o sofrimento em fator de crescimento pessoal, a partir do contato e da socializa??o em um universo de significado esp?rita, e isso foi determinante para que elaborasse o seu projeto de a??o.
