Previous issue date: 2017 / This study was accomplished with the objective to investigate the intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients, feeding behavior and nitrogen balance in Santa Ines lambs fed rations containing dehydrated brewery residue (BDG). Thirty-five male lambs non-castrated with average initial weight of 16.00 ± 1.69 kg, and, approximately, 70 days of age were used. Were adopted a completely randomized design with five treatments and seven replications, consisting the treatments to 0; 20; 40; 60 to 80% of inclusion of BDG in the concentrate portion of the ration. The duration of the experiment was determined by the time required for the mean body weight of the animals of the treatment reached 28 kg, at which all the experimental animals were slaughtered. The intake of dry matter (DM) in g day-1, % PC and g kg0.75 showed decreasing linear effect (P<0.05). The same behavior was observed for consumption of organic matter (OM), mineral matter (MM), crude protein (CP), total carbohydrates (TC) and total digestible nutrients (TDN), expressed in g day-1. However, the intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) increased linearly (P <0.05) with the addition of the BDG, when expressed in % PC and g kg-0.75. The apparent digestibility of ether extract (EE), NDF, acid detergent fiber (ADF) showed linear increase (P<0.05). For the variables related to feeding behavior, feed efficiency (g DM h-1), rumination efficiency (gDM h-1 and gNDF h-1) and entertainment showed decreasing linear effect (P<0.05 ), while the rumination time, total chewing time and number of chews presented increasing linear effect on higher levels of BDG in the feed. It was observed linear effect (P<0.05) for N intake, N and fecal N basal endogenous, however the observed decrease did not affect the nitrogen balance (P>0.05). The brewery waste inclusion levels dehydrated in confinement in sheep rations promote reduced consumption and low coefficients of apparent digestibility of nutrients, as well as reduction in power efficiencies and rumination, however, RCD inclusions are not enough to compromise the nitrogen balance. However, adding up to 20% of the combined potion may be recommended depending on the feasibility of acquisition / Este estudo foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o consumo, a digestibilidade aparente dos nutrientes, o comportamento ingestivo e o balanço de nitrogênio em cordeiros Santa Inês alimentados com rações contendo resíduo de cervejaria desidratado (RCD). Foram utilizados 35 cordeiros, machos, não-castrados, com peso médio inicial de 16,00 ± 1,69 kg e, aproximadamente 70 dias de idade. Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e sete repetições, consistindo os tratamentos em: 0; 20; 40; 60 e 80% de inclusão de RCD na porção concentrada da ração. A duração do experimento foi determinada pelo tempo necessário para que a média de peso corporal dos animais de um dos tratamentos atingisse 28 kg, ocasião em que todos os animais experimentais foram abatidos. O consumo de matéria seca (MS), expresso em g dia-1, % PC e g kg0,75 apresentou efeito linear decrescente (P<0,05). O mesmo comportamento foi observado para o consumo de matéria orgânica (MO), matéria mineral (MM), proteína bruta (PB), carboidratos totais (CHOT) e nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT), expressos em g dia-1. Contudo, a ingestão de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) aumentou linearmente (P<0,05) com a adição do RCD, quando expressa em % PC e g kg-0,75. A digestibilidade aparente da MS, MO e CHOT apresentou efeito quadrático (P<0,05), com menor valor para digestibilidade da MS com a inclusão de 42,5% do subproduto na ração. A digestibilidade aparente do extrato etéreo (EE), da FDN e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) apresentou efeito linear crescente (P<0,05). Para as variáveis relacionadas ao comportamento ingestivo, a eficiência de alimentação (g MS h-1), eficiência de ruminação (gMS h-1 e gFDN h-1) e ócio apresentaram efeito linear decrescente (P<0,05), enquanto o tempo de ruminação, tempo de mastigação total e número de mastigações merícicas por dia apresentaram efeito linear crescentes (P<0,05) a medida que o RCD foi adicionado à ração. Foi observado efeito linear decrescente (P<0,05) para o N consumido, N fecal e N endógeno basal, entretanto o decréscimo constatado não influenciou o balanço de nitrogênio (BN) (P>0,05), expresso em g dia-1. Os níveis de inclusão de resíduo de cervejaria desidratado nas rações de ovinos em confinamento promovem redução no consumo e baixos coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente dos nutrientes, como também redução nas eficiências de alimentação e ruminação, entretanto, as inclusões do RCD não são suficientes para comprometer o balanço de nitrogênio. Contudo, a adição em até 20% da porção concentrada pode ser recomendada a depender da viabilidade de aquisição.
