Previous issue date: 2010 / This paper aims to present a study that used the technique of error analysis for understanding the difficulties presented by the students in the discipline of Differential Calculus. While acknowledging the influence of other factors, the concern of the researcher in this work was focused on mathematical knowledge for the Calculus. The starting point was the analysis of the assessments made during the term. lt also was analyzed material that students could consult during the examinations and applied a questionnaire to those involved with the discipline (students, teachers and mentors). This research concluded that the greatest obstacle faced by students in this discipline is not the specific content of the calculus, but the basic knowledge of mathematics, studied in elementary and high levels. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar uma pesquisa que utilizou a técnica de análise de erros para a compreensão das dificuldades apresentadas pelos alunos na disciplina de Cálculo Diferencial. Embora reconheça a influência de outros fatores, a preocupação do pesquisador nessa investigação esteve centrada nos conhecimentos matemáticos relativos ao Cálculo. O ponto de partida foi análise das avaliações realizadas durante o semestre. Além disso, também foi analisado um material que os alunos poderiam confeccionar para consultar durante as provas e aplicado um questionário junto aos envolvidos com a disciplina (alunos, professores e monitores). Essa pesquisa permitiu concluir que o maior obstáculo enfrentado pelos educandos nessa disciplina não está nos conteúdos específicos do Cálculo, mas sim nos conhecimentos da Matemática básica, estudados nos níveis Fundamental e Médio.
