Previous issue date: 2008 / In this critical and interpretative study we approach the fictional character, its main aspects, the figure of the childhood in the Brazilian children’s narrative and its current situatuion in our country. From that on, we search for a better comprehension of the child characterization in the Brazilian children’s narrative of the 21st century. We aim to discuss her/his role within the selected texts and to verify how she/he relates to the society which represents. Supported by theorists of the Literary Tieory and Sociology, we analize in this way which aspests collaborate to build the child character in the books Valentina by Márcio Vassallo, O cachecol by Lia Zatz and Ponto de Vista by Ana Maria Machado. / Neste estudo crítico e interpretativo abordamos a personagem de ficção, seus principais aspectos, a figura da infância na narrativa infantil brasileira e sua atual situação em nosso País. Buscamos, a partir disso, uma melhor compreensão da caracterização da criança na narrativa infantil brasileira do século XXI. Temos o objetivo de discutir seu papel dentro dos textos selecionados e verificarmos como ela se relaciona com a sociedade que representa. Analisamos, dessa forma, apoiados por estudiosos da teoria da literatura e da sociologia, os aspectos que colaboram para a construção da personagem criança nos livros Valentina, de Márcio Vassallo, O cachecol, de Lia Zatz, e Ponto de vista, de Ana Maria Machado.
