Previous issue date: 2009 / This study investigates the work of Social Workers with chronic kidney disease patients in dialysis units of Hospitals and Clinics of Porto Alegre. This research sample is characterized by not be an intentional probabilistic because the selected persons had ease access to information and their availability to participate in this study (MARCONI; LAKATOS, 2003). Seven (7) social workers who work in units of Hemodialysis/Peritoneal dialysis have been the subject of this research. Discuss how to (re) invent the professional actions in ‘the world of work’ today was the ‘background’ to understand the obstacles and the opportunities establish into the reality of the daily work researched. The Health Policy analysis both historical and actual situation, presented itself as fundamental to talk about the challenges faced by the professionals in contemporaneity. Challenges that permeate the distinct social-occupational spaces and sometimes, it particularized into the Health matters and Institutional spaces researched.Realize the alienation/strangeness that permeates work processes in the Institutions reveals that the professional work is not only alienated, showing a work routine in a tension between the alienation and none alienation. That means that this research study demonstrates that even with the reflexes of ‘the world of work’ the daily work is an area of concerns, interactions, challenges and professionals motivations. / O presente estudo investiga o trabalho dos Assistentes Sociais junto a usuários com doença renal crônica em Unidades de Diálise de Hospitais e Clínicas de Porto Alegre/ RS. A amostragem desta pesquisa caracteriza-se por ser não probabilística intencional, pois os sujeitos foram selecionados pela facilidade de acesso a informação e pela disponibilidade dos mesmos em participar deste estudo (MARCONI; LAKATOS, 2003). Têm-se como sujeitos dessa pesquisa sete (7) assistentes sociais que trabalham em Unidades de Hemodiálise/Diálise Peritoneal. Discutir sobre como se (re)inventa a ação profissional no “mundo do trabalho” hoje, foi o “pano de fundo” para a compreensão dos entraves e possibilidades expressas no cotidiano profissional da realidade investigada. A análise da Política de Saúde, tanto de sua história quanto de seu panorama atual, apresentou-se como fundamental para dialogar sobre os desafios que se colocam aos profissionais na contemporaneidade. Desafios que perpassam os distintos espaços sócioocupacionais e que, por vezes, se particularizam no âmbito da Saúde e nos espaços institucionais pesquisados.Perceber a alienação/estranhamento, que perpassam os processos de trabalho que permeiam as Instituições, assinala que o trabalho profissional não se mostra meramente alienado, revelando um cotidiano profissional tencionado e tencionante entre a alienação e a desalienação, isto é, este estudo investigativo demonstra que, com os reflexos do “mundo do trabalho”, o cotidiano profissional constitui-se em um contaditório espaço de inquietações, interações, intervenções, desafios e motivações profissionais.
