Esta dissertação tem como objetivo analisar os provérbios como estratégia de persuasão, observando seus efeitos de sentido na atividade argumentativa. Para isso, primeiramente examinam-se as concepções enunciativas e discursivas pertinentes à enunciação proverbial. Esta parte é iniciada por um traçado pelas lingüísticas não enunciativas, abordando, logo em seguida, as teorias dialógicas de Bakhtin e o aparelho formal da enunciação de Benveniste. Destacam-se ainda, nesta fase do trabalho, as contribuições da Análise do Discurso (AD), de onde provém os conceitos discursivos com os quais os provérbios serão tratados. As questões envolvidas na heterogeneidade enunciativa, bem como nas modalidades, também apresentam-se como alvos de enfoque, haja vista a sua grande importância para o desenvolvimento do processo argumentativo na enunciação dos provérbios. No capítulo destinado à coesão dos provérbios, detalham-se minuciosamente os elementos lingüísticos estruturais do enunciado proverbial, reparando como eles aferem-lhe o seu caráter mnemônico e expressivo, que os tornam tão práticos e sedutores. Em seguida, tem-se uma exposição dos aspectos da argumentação e das estratégias de persuasão, fundamentados, principalmente, sob os conceitos da retórica moderna, sobretudo a partir das teorias de Perelman. Através da análise do corpus constituído de letras de música, anúncios e matérias recolhidas da televisão, rádio, revistas e jornais de grande circulação nacional, mostra-se como e por que os provérbios são utilizados no discurso a fim de obter a adesão do outro, além de observar os efeitos de sentido provocados e o seu funcionamento em cada uma das ocorrências. / This dissertation has as objective to analyse the proverbs as persuasion strategy, observing their sense effects in the argumentative activity. To get it, first of all are examined the enunciative and discursive conceptions relative to proverbial enunciation. This part is initiated by a tracing for the non-enunciative linguistics, treating, soon after, the Bakhtins dialogic theories and the Benvenistes formal system of the enunciation. Are still detached, in this phase of the work, the Analysis of the Discourse (AD) contribution, from where derive the discursive concepts with that the proverbs will be treated. The questions involved in the enunciative heterogeneity and also in the modalities are presented as targets of focus too, as shown by their huge importance to the development of the argumentative process in the proverbs enunciation. On chapter destined to the proverbs cohesion, are detailed meticulously the structural linguistic elements of the proverbial enunciation, paying attention how they provide it the mnemonic and expressive character, that turn to them so practical and seductive. After it, is done an exposition of the argumentation aspects and of the persuasion strategies, based, mainly, under the modern rhetoric concepts, especially from Perelmans theories. Through the corpus analysis constituted by music lyrics, announcements and matters extracted from television, radio, magazines and newspapers of extensive national circulation, is shown how and why the proverbs are utilized in discourse in order to get the adhesion of the receiver, besides to observe the sense effects created and their work on each occurrence.
