The world of Soviet law differs so much from the world of Western lawyers that anyone attempting to write on the communist legal system without an explanatory introduction would run the decided risk of being misunderstood. It is certainly not enough to say that we live under differing systems; such facial explanation would inevitably bring to mind the most extreme example of the differences existing in the legal systems of the West, namely the differences between common law and rigidly codified legislations.
