This is the first attempt to study the circumglobal pelagic planktonts of the Family Phronimidae collected from all oceans. Before Vosseler (1901) published his work on the systematics of the phronimid species, the sexual dimorphism and the age variation in these animals proved confusing to the taxonomists.
