The Fabrication of 40Gb/s Optical Transceiver Module with 4 channel x 10Gb/s

The development and measurement of 40Gb/s optical transceiver module applied in optical-fiber communication is investigated. The module extends data rate by using four optical transceiver modules, with 10Gb/s for each throughput. The optical transceiver module consists of transmitter and receiver. The transmitters are composed by laser driver IC and 1310nm FP (Fabry-Perot) laser, and the receivers are composed by limiting amplifier and 1310nm ROSA (Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly).
An optical transceiver module is operated at signal pattern of 231-1 and data rate of 10Gb/s. For back-to-back measurement, the optimum peak-peak jitter, rising time, and falling time are 34.2ps, 51ps, and 39ps, respectively. The result of eye diagram measurement can meet the mask of OC-192 standard, and the eye mask margin can also reach 14%. In the condition of bit error rate of 10-12, the sensitivity of receiver is -2.7dBm. The transceiver module can include DFB (distributed feedback) laser for application in the WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system.
