Visualization and Animation of Ocean Waves in Networked Environments / 網路環境下的海浪視覺化模擬及動畫

碩士 / 國立臺灣科技大學 / 管理研究所資訊管理學程 / 81 / Visualization is a method of computing. It transforms the symbolic into the geometric, enabling researchers to observe their simulations and computations.
  Because of large computation, visualization is often distributedly structured. It integrates one supercomputer and one or more powerful graphics workstations by high speed networking. A supercomputer is used to run the model, and graphics workstations are used to perform distributed visualiozation processing.
  In our study, Our major achievements are:
  1. A miniature form of networked visualization environment (NVE) is constructed based on client - server model. The server handles all jobs of computation, while the client is responsible for graphic display. Both the client and server are run on a Silicon Graphics IRIS personal graphics workstation, and the communication between them is achieved by the SOCKET application program interface (API) and TCP / IP communication protocol.
  2. The behaviors of ocean waves are visualized and animated in the environment previously built. Two different kinds of ocean waves model are implemented. They have ever been implemented before, but not in networked environments nor animated. Besides, the source codes of early research are either lost or difficult to obtain. Therefore, we hope our programs and experiences might be a helpful basis for future researchers.
3.We also developed one of the ocean waves models to sumulate the crashing process of curling waves.
4.Rendered examples and animation frames of ocean waves generated are given. All source codes are listed in the Appendix.
