碩士 / 國立中興大學 / 植物學系 / 82 / Gracilaria tenuistipitata var.liui were cultivated in pond for
examining the effect of water depth on their growth rate and
agar quality. Another topic is to study the effect of
biological control against the filamentous alga, Chaetomorpha
sp., existing in the pond during winter-time。 IT was found
that the epiphyte grazer, rabbit fish(Siganus fuscescens )
was a good biotic controller to deprive Chaetomorpha sp.,
and this fish could surive in 10°C water temperature during
the winter. The best growth rate for G.tenuistipitata var.
liui is of which growing under 30 cm water depth. The
best agar gel strength can be obtained from the 60 cm one
and best agar yield from the 90 cm one. As a whole,
there is the best performance in which growing under 60 cm.
The perpared agar can be purified to bacteriological grade
quality, average gel strength being up to 450 g/cm,average
sulphate contant about 0.7%,ash below 3%. And clarity of
agar can improve further by using better equipment. Some
measured parameters are calculated their correlations
using significance test. Positive correlations are found
between: (growing under 30 cm water depth) gelling
temperature and gel strength ; gelling temperature and 3,6-
A.G content ; sulphate content and alga growth rate ;(growing
under 60 cm ) agar melting temperature and agar yield; and
3,6-A.G content and water salinity. Negative correlation are
found between; (growing under 60 cm) sulphate content and
water salinity; ash content and agar yield; (growing under
90 cm) ash content and clarity.
