Effect of Dietary Fish Oil on the Formation of Lipid Peroxide in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats / 膳食魚油對Streptozotocin所引起的糖尿病大白鼠之脂質過氧化物生成之影響

碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 水產食品科學研究所 / 83 / To investigate the effect of dietary fish oil on lipid peroxide formation in diabetic rats, male Wistar rats ( 6-week-old) were separated into six groups; (a) Lard group (b) Lard group (c) Lard group (d) Fish oil group (e) Fish oil group (f) Fish oil group, were studied for 10 weeks. After t weeks of feeding study, (b), (c), (e), (f) group rats were administered with STZ (Streptozotocin, 25 mg/Kg) from tail veins, then (c) group one was switched to fish oil diet feeding and (f) group were changed into lard diet feeding. Fish oil supplement significantly increased plasma, liver, pancreas, heart and kidney TBARS (Thiobarbic acid reactive suatstance) values. In addition, Liver GST (Glutathione Stransferase), SOD (Superoxide dismutase) and Catalase activity in rats fed fish oil diet were also higher than that of lard group. Although STZ adminstration increased liver Catalase activity in rats fed Lard diet, no significat chang in liver antioxidant enzymes were found in rats fed fish oil with adminstration. Higher TBARS values in liver, pancreas and kidney and increased liver GST activities were found in rats when lard diet feeding were changed into fish oil diet feeding. On the contary, lower TBARS values in liver and pancreas and decreased liver GST activity were found in rats when fish oil diet feeding were changed into lard diet feeding. Result from present study suggest that dietary fish oil might affect lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities in rats, but no significant change was observed in rats administered with STZ (25mg/Kg).
