The study of understory vegetation and tree seedling distribution pattern in Fu-shan low altitude broad-leaved forest, nothern Taiwan / 臺灣北部福山地區低海拔闊葉森林地被植物及樹種小苗分佈類型之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 植物學研究所 / 83 / Although understory vegetation are typically low realative to total forest biomass, the components of undrestory vegetation not only may determine the success of regeneration of dominant tree species but control the tree seedling spatial distribution pattern. If so,succession trends as well as the composition of climax vegetation are affected.
There are major 24 shrub species and 71 herb species, shrub plant except two tree ferns ,Alsophila podophylla and Alsophila metteniana, most are Dicotyledons. All herbaceous plant found in the plots concentrate in few species and most be perennial Pteridophytes and Dicotyledons, beside this herb stratum also are the important understory component in the forest.
Compare to the result of herb plant society and tree vegetation dominant species distribution, there are very match in each other. Therefore we can predicted that understory vegetation can reflect the site quality as well as tree canopy species. By herbaceous plants distribution pattern, tree seedling present in series plots also could be divided into three types. Different dominant herb species and herb coverage in each types will effect seed germination and early seedling establishment via environmental factors. Therefore seedling spatial distribution show heterogeneous in this study.
