Study on the causes of deformed thornfish terapon jarbua:the effects of temperature, zinc and organotin / 花身雞魚畸型成因之研究:溫度、鋅及有機錫的影響

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 漁業科學研究所 / 83 / Deformed thornfish Terapon jarbua were abundantly found at
the effluent of nuclear power plant NO.2 in summer 1993. Many
possible reasons were pointed out, this study was set up with
emphasis on two main factors: thermal discarge and chemical
pollutant.
After the environmental survey and the detection on deformed
thornfish, zinc and tributyltin were found as the main pollutants
at the effluent of nuclear power plant NO.2, as well as high
temperature. High temperature increased the acute toxicology of
zinc and tributyltin but juvenile thornfish still can stay at
the effluent with temperature up to 40℃. Embryos exposed to
tributyltin resulted in abnormal larvae with bent vertebrae but
the hatching rates were not affected under the lower concentra-
tions of zinc or tributyltin. Tributyltin at the temperature of
38℃ and within 20 days, could interactly induce the occurrence
of skeletal abnormality in all tested fish; it caused fish with
z summits along the vertebral column which abundantly found at
deformed fish caught from nuclear power plant NO.2.At room tempe-rature (29℃), zinc or tributyltin could induce the vertebral defect but not so serious and the deformed rates were low.
In conclusion, combined action of high temperature and tri-
butyltin were considered as one of the most important factors for causing deformed thornfish; zinc and nutrition may play a minor effect on it.
