the A-Structure zone, Offshore Southwestern TaiwanAbstract
The Oligocene and Cretaceous rocks within the A-Structurezone,
offshore Southwestern Taiwan, were proved to be
importantreservoirs after well drilling in the last few years.
This study is to define the characteristics of reservoir
according to diageneticanalysis of core samples; e.g., A-1, A-10
and A-16 wells, along withthe analysis of twenty-two well
logging data. To establish a completereservoir evaluation
technique, and to understand the characteristics of reservoir,
and its distribution around the study area are the
primaryobjectives of this study. The diagenetic study of
the reservoir rock can provide theunderstanding of the causes of
the loss of primary porosity and thegain of secondary porosity.
In this study area, most of the primarypores in both of
Oligocene and Cretaceous reservoirs were destroyeddue to calcite
cementation, authigenic clays, compaction and deformation. The
secondary pores was generated by dissolution of unstable
minerals andcalcite cement, or by fracturing. For instance, in
well A-16, fracturingcan be devided into two stages. Most
fractures of the earlier stage werefilled with calcite, or gouge
produced by granulation of fracturing.Fractures formed at a
later stage are mainly of open type. Fracturing notnoly
improves the development of secondary porosity, but also
provides the connection between the isolated secondary pores;
namely it promotes the reservoir qualities. The GS well
logging data analysis and interpretation softwareis ultilized to
analyze the characteristics of Oligocene and
Cretaceousreservoirs. In order to directly correlate the
investigation result ofrock diagenectic analysis to the well
logging data, this study hassuccessfully developed the data
input file format for relativeelements in performing core
analysis; such that, to be adopted into the fution of GS
software. The correlation between the well logging data and
the resultsof diagenetic study may be observed from the
correlative plotsgenerated by the GS software package. Thus,
the characteristics anddistribution of the reservoir rock, the
lithology and its relationshipamong the neighboring formation
can be observed directlly. Nevertheless, using the SURFER
computer graphic software, several contour-type maps, represnting
the extend of the reservoirrock, the lithology and their
characteristics may also be obtained.
