Neotectonics displayed by seismic data offshore in Southwestern Taiwan / 臺灣西南海域震測資料所顯示之新構造意義

碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 應用地球物理研究所 / 84 / By the new collision, Taiwan West Coast becomes the new
center of the new tectonic movement. Mud diapirs
in offshore of Southwestern Taiwan seem giving
some hints inside. On the view of tectonics, Taiwan sits on the
structure zone, cut(or crossed) by a lots of slip faults,
which is compressed and sheared. In this study, we
utlized the seismograms to analyze the distrubution of mud
diapirs, mud volcanoes and faults between east longitude
119°20'' to 120°30'' and north latitude 22°00'' to 23
°10''. Besids, we analyzed the geomorphic linement with the data
of bathmetry and map on land. Through the
investigation we conclude some results below: (1)By
observing the seismograms, there are both of postive and
negitive flower structures in this area. They demonstrate
that the predominant faulting is strike-slip faulting. (2)Due
to grabens and anticlines in offshore between Tainan and
Kaosiung, which connect the low land and high land on
land, suit on the curve of anticline. We infer that is formed
by the turn of force or blocks. (3) In offshore of Tainan, mud
diapirs injected by bouoyancy which is occured by
density reverse. Forward to south those mud diapirs
were formed by different loading produced by anticline. There
were also injected from the fracture zones of strike-slip
faults. (4) The correlation of faults between on land and
offshore is deduced from the distribution of mud dipirs and mud
volcanoes and the geomorphic lineament. From above,
Southwestern Taiwan and offshore area formed
anticlines affected by compressing in early period. The faulting
in this period is thrust faulting. Mud material injected
through the fracture. Then the directory of force
changed by Peikang High. The strike-slip faulting became
dominant faulting in this period. Mud diapirs injected
the shear zones of strike-slip faults. Today''s geomorphic
features then formed.
