博士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 公共衛生學研究所 / 84 / In order to elucidate health effects induced by inorganic
arsenic and to evaluate the association between
inorganic methylation capacity、body retention and health
effects induced by inorganic arsenic, a total of five
substudies was carried out in this study. ( 一 ) Review of
health effects induced by inorganic arsenic and methylation
capicity of inorganic arsenic ( 二 ) Ecological study on
health effects induced ingested inorganic arsenic among
residents in Lanyang Basin ( 三 ) Prevalence of stroke and
ingested inorganic arsenic among residents in Lanyang Basin (
四 ) Incidence of health effects and ingested inorganic arsenic
:a cohort follow-up study in blackfoot disease endemic area (
五 ) A association of arsenic methylation capacity and body
retention, null genotypes of glutathione S-transferase M1 and
T1 with risk of skin cancer among passive in blackfoot disease-
endemic area and Lanyang Basin The associations between cancers
of the skin, lung, bladder, kidney and liver, vascular
diseases (blackfoot disease, cardiovascular disease,
cerebral vascular disease, and microcirculation),
nonvascular disease (diabetes mellitus and hypertension)
and ingested inorganic arsenic were observed in this
study. Mortality rates from cancers of the stomach and
colorectum, diseases of the hematopoietic system, ischemic
heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, diseases of the
arteries, arterioles and capillaries, chronic bronchitis and
emphysema, and diseases of gastrointestinal system were
significantly higher among residents in Lanyang Basin than
the general population in Taiwan.(truncated)
