碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 85 / Work values is the process of choosing one''''''''s occupation or
career goalssupported or induced by the internalized values,
which are formed by theindividual''''''''s tendency to show one''''''''s
ability, one''''''''s willingness and one''''''''sattitude in the process of
occupational development. In recent years, dueto the lack of
merchant sailors, there have been some problems of runningand
managing the shipping business. The research was based on
responses to questionnaires given to graduates from the Shipping
Department and the related departments, and the purpose was to
probe into their work valuesas well as analyze whether different
backgrounds would lead to significantdifferences in work values.
Afterwards, the students'''''''' work values were grouped, then the
relationship between the groups and occupational choiceswere
analyzed. In the process of reserch, data was collected from a
general poll. Thenthey were analyze by statistic software-SAS,
and its statistical methods, such as frequency analysis, one-way
anova, T-test, cluster analysis, discriminate analysis, and chi-
squares test were applied. The results obtainedare as follows:1.
By ranking, the work values to which the graduates from the
Shipping Department and the related departments ranked in order
of importance are security and economic returns, relations with
associates and supervisors, dignity, self-improvement, health
benefit and ease of communting, stable and worry-free
positions, and self-realization.2.Graduates from different
departments differed in their work-value rankings
significantly, while graduates with different work experiences
and from different social levels did not rank their work values
significantly different.3.The work values of the Shipping
Department and the related department graduates were grouped
into 5 classes by cluster analysis, then the chi-squares test
was applied to test the relationship between the classes and
the occupational choices. Findings showed that there is no
significant relationship. Using the results, a conclusion and
suggestions were proposed for follow-upresearch.
