The Study of Physical and Geotechnical Properties of the Surface Sediments off Southwest Taiwan / 臺灣西南外海海床沉積物物理及力學性質之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 海洋研究所 / 85 / The sediments move to sedimental place from the source. There
are characters to represent the state on that time on
sedimenting or after sedimenting. Thesecharacters are physical
and geotechnical properties of the sediments. Understan-ding the
local sedimental environment and being helpful to National
Security is the goal of this research after the study of
physical and geotechnical properti-es off southwest Taiwan.
The research shows that the surface sediment off southwest
Taiwan is liquid s-tate, high activity, medium plasticity of
inorganic clays. There are some shell scarps in the sediment on
the continent shelf. The sources of the sediment of this area
come from the north of the Kaohsiung Port by longshore current
and the land by Kao-ping River. On the basis of the g-rain size
distribution of sediment, the sediment that comes from the north
of t-he Kaohsiung Port by longshore current transport to the
southwest of the contin-ent slope by the slope off Kaohsiung
and the sediment that comes by Kao-ping R-iver passes southwest
along the Kao-ping Canyon induce decreasing of the sand c-ontent
silt content mean and standard The area is the
transporting way of the sediment and the way of the transport-
ing is suspending show that the water power is strong. The
corroding by the str-ong water power induces overconsolidation
and less compression in sediment. There are four areas off
southwest Taiwan by the atterberg limit of the surfa-ce
sediment. They are Kao-ping continent shelf, the east side of
the Kao-ping c-ontinent slope, the upper part of the west side
of the Kao-ping continent slope and the Kao-ping Canyon, the
lower part of the west side of the Kao-ping contin-ent slope.
