Effects of Photoperiod、Temperature and Fertilizer on the Growth and Flowering of Rieger Begonia(Begonia×hiemalis Fotsch) / 光週、溫度與肥料對麗格秋海棠生長與開花之影響

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 園藝學研究所 / 85 / There were some troubles in Rieger begonia culture in Taiwan, such as slow growth ,easy to rot, and poor growth under high temperature in summer, fewer flowers, and the cutting must rely on import. This study investigated the effect of temperature on the growth and development of Rieger begonia in phytotron, and forced the culture of Rieger begonia by means of daylenth treatment and cool temperature In the moutain area. By aids of the fertilizer management and some cultural practices it is possible to produce the pot flowers of Rieger begonia with high quality, control the date for saling and make a cultural model fitted Taiwan.
"Barkos" and " Silvia" had good vegetative growth, and plants grew fastly to flowering between 20-25℃, but the quality of pot flowers were better under day/night temperature 20/15℃ than 25/20℃. Under high day/night temperature (30/25℃), plant grew weakly and slowly got sunburn easily, flowered late and the flower quality was worse. In the summer, plant cultured under PE house at Chutzehu Yanmingshan (at an altitude of 600 m) in Taipei, showed that the cuttings grew fastly, and the plant canopy, leaf number, leaf area, growth rate of lateral shoots, flower number and flower diameter were better than that grown at lowland (at an altitude of 50 m). Besides, plants grew fast to flowering and the flowering period extended longer. Plants grown under Venlo-type glasshouse at lowland were dwarf, and the latral shoots grew slowly, flowering delayed, flower number decreased and flower diameter got smaller. After the cuttings were potted, long-day treatment (18hr light) last for 6-9 weeks accelerated the growth of lateral shoots and leaves, and the number of flowers, quailty of pot flower was increased, but the days got to flowering were longer. By means of changing the period of long day treatment, the saling date of pot flower could be controlled. In fertilizer treatment- Osmocote 3g/L, 6 g/L, 9 g/L, 3 g/L+J and full strength Jonhson''s solution, addition of 3 g/L Osmocote to the culture medium suited the growth of plant in general. Among the studied cultivars, "Nelly" was the most sensitive to the concentration of fertilizer. It owned the least flower number and the sensitive plants maybe hurt under the level of Osmocote 9 g/L, 6 g/L+J and full strength Johnson''s solution.
