碩士 / 輔仁大學 / 織品服裝研究所 / 86 / Direct imports from off-shore by US apparel retailers have been practiced for over 30 years. Starting form the 90''s, a series of acquisitions and mergers have taken place with only a few strong national retailers left. The simple purchasing entity of yesterday has become a complex, gigantic conglomerate today. For the past 20 years, Taiwan has been one of the major apparel import resources for the US market, which also means that Taiwan garment industry heavily depends on US import buying, As a result, US overseas buying behavior of apparel has had decisive effects on developments of Taiwan garment industry.
The main focus of this research is on US overseas buying offices in Taiwan, particularly the buying office of department chain stores. Its aim is to gain better understanding of the buying behavior patterns and decision-making process of these offices. The research builds on an intensive review of teh classification and organization of USA apparel department chain stores, their present situation and their general overseas buying patterns, interviews with the senior person of each major buying office in Taiper were conducted, in addition to a survey of all the major office market representatives and their senior workers.
The results of these investigations were analyzed so as to reveal step by step buying procedures, critical points in the decision-making process, and the organization buying theory employed or adjusted by each of the local overseas apparel buying offices. Some suggestions to Taiwan''s apparel exporters to the USA were also offered.
