hat is one of the three major citrus cultivators in Taiwan. The harvest time o
f Hai-Li tangor is between those of Ponkan and Seedless Tankan tangor,but the
low juice content and mild flavor of Hai-Li tangor make it less popular than t
he other cultivars.The results from the investigations of the plant growth and
fruit development indicate that from the 26th -week after anthesis on the jui
ce content and percentage of pulp ball of Hai-Li tangor are much less than tha
t of Tankan tangor, This cultivar difference may be related to the difference
of water translocation between plant trunk and fruits.The comparative investig
ation of the growth of branches and water sprouts showed that variation of gro
wth potential of Tankan tangor cultivars does not lead to their difference in
juice content.The transpiration rates of both leaf and fruits of Hai-Li tangor
are higher than those of Tankan tangor. This may be one of the reasons contri
bute to the low juice content of Hai-Li tangor.The fruit surface morphology in
dicates that Hai-Li tangor is smoother than Tankan tangor. The stomata of Tank
an tangor fruit distributed under the oil gland lead to the lower transpiratio
n rate than Hai-Li tangor. In Er-mei area, stomata density of Hai-Li tangor
fruit is higher than Tankan tangor, while in Dahou area, there is no signific
ant difference. The stomata density of Hai-Li tangor leaf is close to that of
Tankan tangor leaf in Er-mei area but not in Dahou area, so the difference in
juice content among cultivars may depend on the production area. It is probabl
y that the main loss comes from the fruit in Er-mei area while in Dahou area,
the main loss is come from leaf.Using antitranspirants in field seems have fe
w improved about fruit quality of Hai-Li tangor. Its probably due to the facto
r of climate and environment.The observance from scanning electron microscope
shows that stomata with direct effect, and to the rate of transpiration of Hai
-Li tangor liquid wax spraying treatment in potted plant has more obvious inha
bitant effect than that in field. The improve method by spraying antitranspira
nts to juice content of Hai-Li tangor should be more deeply investigated and d
iscussed.
