A Study on the Optimal Load for Container Transportation-The Ccase of Tachen Stainless Pipe Co., Ltd. / 貨櫃運輸之最適裝載量研究—以大成不銹鋼公司為例

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 企業管理學系 / 87 / The purpose of this study is to derive an algorithm for the optimal loading of two kinds of articles, which having different shapes, volumes and weight, under the cargo container''s restrictions on weight, length and height. An example of Tachen Stainless Pipe Co. Ltd., is studied. Some parameters of the articles and the containers are specified as follows.
Several pieces of steel sheet are placed as a unit in a skid. Only 8 or 9 skids are stacked in a container. The steel sheet has a variety of 8, 10, 12 and 20 feet in length and the weight of the steel sheet often ranges from 1.3 to 1.9 tons. The coils are all 3.6ft in width and range from 4 to 6 tons in weight. Both kinds of containers can hold 20 or 21 tons.
We take a heuristic approach, which is based on "greedy algorithm" idea, to the problem. The conclusions are summarized as follows.
1.A computerized system for allocating different articles inside a container is developed to support the "loading" operation in Tachen company.
2.The system becomes more efficient as the quantity of the articles gets larger.
