The process of the fish treatment includes the scaling, the belly filleting, the eviscerating, the gill removing, the body cleaning and the waste treatment etc. These procedures are heavy loaded and complicated. There is almost no automatic device designed to replace the manual operation due to the numerous types and sizes of fishes. The research on the fish body treatment reported in the literature are numerous but they can hardly be commercialized because of the poor performance on practical usage.
Based on the above reasons, the aim of the present research is to design an automatic machine for the fish body treatment. The methodology of engineering design was applied to the conceptual design and the embodiment design, and then a prototype machine for removing the fish scale is fabricated. The vibration analysis of the prototype was conducted, based upon the Taguchi’s method, in order to obtain the smooth operating condition. The performance of this prototype was also evaluated in the present research.
