Study on diversity of butterflies among heterogeneous lowland forest types of Taiwan / 低海拔地區異質林相蝴蝶多樣性之研究

碩士 / 國立彰化師範大學 / 科學教育研究所 / 87 / Owing to the development and construction in the recent decades, original plains and hillsides are not much left, with little land still available for further usage. Under these circumstances, the lowland area will be bound to serious ecological impacts following the plain and hillsides. Even the areas of higher elevations could be under threat, too. This research investigated three heterogeneous forest types of lowland sites in Lu-Ku Town, Nantou County; site A was a mixed forest of broad leaf, site B, a forest of Phyllostachy edulis, and site C, an artificial fir forest respectively. Four different analyses of diversity indexes are made to understand the difference of the composition of butterfly community of these sampling sites. Besides, the type of forest, climatic factors and human disturbance were all taken into consideration to appreciate their influences to the butterfly composition.
The result shows that site A possessed more butterfly species and quantity than the other two. This site was also richer in species of seed plants, host plants and nectar sources than the other two. Temperature, other than the humidity, rain fall, and other factors obviously contribute more influences to the occurrence of adult butterflies.
According to data produced in this research, site A is better than site C, followed by site B in terms of butterfly diversity. Satyridae is the best represented family in all three sites. Artificially planted fir forest and forest bamboo seemed both unsuitable for Pieridae, Lycaenidae, and Hesperiidae to inhabit all. The underlying reason for this phenomenon remains to be investigated.
