Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Thecosomes in the Adjacent Waters of Kaohsiung and Liu-chiu Yu Island / 高雄及小琉球附近海域有殼翼足類之時空分佈

碩士 / 國立中山大學 / 海洋資源學系 / 87 / There were 17 species of thecosomes belonging to 8 genera found in the adjacent waters of Kaohsiung and Liu-chiu Yu Island from April 1997 to February 1998. The mean abundance of total thecosomes was 356±577 ind./100m3. Dominant species were Creseis acicula, C. virgula, C. v. conica and Limacina trochiformis. They totally accounted for more than 88% of the total thecosomes catches.
The dominant and most other thecosome species found in this area belonged to the subtropical and tropical cosmopolitan species. Temperate and polar species were not found in this area. Thecosomes were more abundant in summer than in winter, and the dominant species exhibited seasonal succession.
In the time series studies, the abundance of thecosomes was significantly higher at night than during the daytime. Comparing to the multi-net samples, it was found that the N/D ratio of abundance was usually larger than 1 in the upper 100m depth but smaller than 1 in the 150m to 200m depth, suggesting that most thecosomes migrated up ward to the upper 100m depth at night and down ward to the deeper water during the day. Among the dominant thecosome species, only Limacina. inflata, L. bulimoides and Diacria. quadridentata exhibited large scale vertical migration, while most species showed small scale vertical migration or no migration at all.
The abundance of most thecosomes was not significantly correlated with water temperature or salinity (p>0.05), except that of L. trochiformis was positively correlated with both temperature and salinity, while C. v. conica was negatively correlated with salinity.
