The analysis on the accuracy of bathymetrical data and topographical image of seabed using shallow water multi-beam echo-sounding system / 淺水多音束聲納測深資料精確度及海底地形影像分析之研究

碩士 / 國立中山大學 / 海下技術研究所 / 87 / The purpose of bathymetric surveying is to provide the water depth information of the dam, river, channel, lake and ocean. The results may serve the basis for studying interrelationship among marine geology, physics, chemistry, and biology. It may also form the basis for coastal engineering planning, design and construction or as basic information for nautical charting. Single-beam echo sounder, multi-beam echo sounder and side scan sonar with DGPS can be used in bathymetric survey. However, side scan sonar is towed by ship. The clearness of the image depends on the distance from transducer to the sea bottom. It takes much more time to operate than those of multi-beam echo sounder and needs intensive experience to interpret. The sounding density from a single beam echo sounder can not provide enough information to demonstrate the shape of an artificial reef with dimension of 2×2×2 m3 and a seabed pipeline diameter of 0.8m-1.7m. Multi-beam echo sounder may have potential to obtain enough depth data to do both qualitative and quantitative sea bottom morphological analysis at the same time.
Two sets of multi-beam echo sounder were imported to Taiwan before the end of 1995. As we know, the theory and the operation of the multi-beam echo sounder are more complex than those of single beam echo sounder. Multi-beam echo sounder provides much more data density. Therefore, it can be an efficient tool to analyze on the accuracy of bathymetrical data and topographical image of seabed. Integration of DGPS, gyro compass, sound velocimeter, motion sensor, application of underwater sound in shallow water, data management, and in situ survey of the multi-beam echo sounder will be investigated. Field survey in the casted artificial reefs and seabed pipeline areas will be performed to analyze topographical image of seabed and to identify their distribution.
The study found the Reson 9001 multi-beam echo sounder system can detect the “sinking, scouring, horizontal movement of artificial reef and the distribution of ripples and ocean outfall.” This study shows that multi-beam echo sounder system may also identify the size of depression beneath the ocean outfall. The study also finds the multi-beam echo sounder system can detect the seabed gas pipeline. So the Reson 9001 multi-beam echo sounder system should be capable to detect the distritution of wave energy dissipating concrete block, the discarded anchor on seabed, mooring anchors for aguacultural net cage and caisson leveling of a rubble bed.
