Distinction and Growth of Wild and Released Taiwanese Abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, in the North-easthern Taiwan / 台灣東北部海域野生與放流九孔之辨別及成長之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 漁業科學研究所 / 87 / The distinction and growth of wild and released Taiwanese abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, in the north-easthern Taiwan were carried out by oxygen and carbon isotope analysis. Furthermore, the amount of wild and released Taiwanese abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw were also estimated. The results are as follows:
1. The carbon isotope values of wild Taiwanese abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw range at 1.24-2.05, which are higher than that of the carbon isotope values of human-cultured ones, which have values at 0.19-0.83. The carbon isotope values of forward part of released Taiwanese abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw are as low as that of the human-cultured Taiwanese abalone. The carbon isotope values of backward part of released ones in the Gulf of Mao Aw are as high as of the wild ones. Therefore, it is clear to distinguish released Taiwanese abalone from wild ones.
2. The estimated amount of wild Taiwanese abalone is 262,580 in 1997 and 225,517 in 1998. The estimated amount of released Taiwanese abalone is 17,543 in 1997 and 24,141 in 1998. The sum of wild and released Taiwanese abalone is 280,123 and 249,658 in 1997 and 1998. The ratio of released Taiwanese abalone to total Taiwanese abalone is 6.26% and 13.88% in 1997 and 1998. The survival rate of released Taiwanese abalone is 3.90% and 8.66% in 1997 and 1998 respectively.
3. Because the trends of the oxygen isotope value and temperature are opposite, this phenomenon is suggested to be a proxy to estimate the age of abalone.
4. The growth rate of Taiwanese abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw is lower than that of human-cultured ones.
5. Under the same condition of the shell length, the shell weight of the abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw is higher than that of human-cultured ones.
6. Under the same condition of the shell length, the meat weight of the abalone in the Gulf of Mao Aw is lower than of that human-cultured ones.
