The Economic Analysis of Cage Culture Industry in Taiwan / 台灣箱網養殖產業經濟分析

碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 水產養殖學系 / 88 / Cage culture under government subsidy has been rapidly developing. The objective of this research was to study the cost-return structure and function, and therefore, to provide the policy makers with appropriate advices.
A farming survey including random sampling with a designed questionnaire and personal interviews was conducted between October 1999 and March 2000. Data about production costs and total revenue according to different farming locations and species were collected from 17 companies.
Four analytical tools were applied into this study. Cobb-Douglas production function was used to estimate the elasticities corresponding to varied inputs and to evaluate whether the economy of scale existing for varied cultured species.
Multivariate analysis of variance was then utilized to study the interaction effect of farming location and varied species on costs and revenue. The principal component analysis was further applied to summarize the original complex input variable to few indices and therefore, enhance our examination and analysis. Discriminant function analysis was finally conducted to determine functions of the original input variables that in some sense separate the m groups interms of location and species as well as is possible. All the related estimation were done by the SAS software system.
The result of C-D function in cage culture industry that Sparidae changed equal to return of scale but Rachycentridae had a increasing situation, both Sparidae and Rachycentridae that whose production elasticity of fry costs were decreasing in a constant scale and diet costs were the same. Multivariate ANOVA displayed that the productive scale had significant difference among areas, and the same as culture period among fish species. Principal component analyzed the data of productive ability and management, survival rate indicator and technological indicator were found in productive ability analysis and environmental indicator and stocking capacity were in the management data. The cage system and diet quality were the main points in Discriminant function. According to the result, stocking scale, cage system, fish species, environment and automation are key factors that this study detected.
