Effect of semidiurnal tide circulation on distribution of planktonic larvae in Tan-shui River / 淡水河半日潮週期作用下浮游幼生的分布

In estuary, tide is the main force influencing water quality and zooplankton communities. Four stations in the Tanshui River were sampled in three water depths. Environmental factors and zooplankton sampling were made simultaneously and analyzed by using multivariate statistics of factor analysis, cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Total environment factors were simplified as salinity, turbidity, less then 40 m suspending matter, larger then 80 m suspending matter, sulfate, chlorophyll, and algae concentration. Aquatic environment is characterized as high-turbidity, low-salinity, high-salinity and mixed water. During the spatial and temporal fluctuation, turbidity stratification was found in the flood tide and salinity stratification appeared in the ebb tide. In zooplankton community, the first seven species compose more than 97.2% of total community. Farther more, they were simplified as spionid larvae, sabellid larvae, copepods, nauplus, nematods, and rare species. Analysis showed that there are spionids, sub-spionids, sabellids, sub-sabellids, copepods and mixed community. Because of both clustering groups were not matching, we propose that besides passive transport, zooplankton distribution is regulated by active migration, especially spionid larvae. The result of Kruskal-Wallis analysis and Dunn Multiple comparison suggested that the density of spionid larvae and copepods were higher in high-salinity water, while the density of sabellid larvae and invertebrate egg were higher in mixed water.
