碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 造船及海洋工程學研究所 / 88 / The goal of this thesis is to develop an effective procedure of sonar image processing to support routine underwater inspections of underwater structures. Planned missions include real-time sonar imaging and data collection along an underwater surface while maintaining the sonar position on a pre-set track or hovering by a designed site using an remotely operated vehicle. Due to the reason that it is difficult to obtain a clear, large-scale image of the scene being surveyed, a method is developed to capture many close-up images from different locations in the test site, and integrate these into a composite surface. We have combined several image filtering techniques to find out a satisfactory procedure to extract large object profile out of noisy sonar images.
