ABSTRACT
During ship’s service, the groundings accidents may cause ocean pollution or endanger crew’s life. When the ship grounded in the rocky seabed, the energy absorption by bottom structures has very important relationship with the damage scenario. In the stage of structural design, the energy absorption by bottom structures can be estimated or analyzed, we can not only raise the strength of ship’s hull and the safety of crew’s life directly, but also improve the ocean environment indirectly. Considering the energy absorption in ship grounding, in this thesis, the structure damage would be divided into three kinds of primary failure modes. Three primary failure modes include tearing, folding, penetration. Firstly, for each failure mode the quasi-static damaged formula is used to estimate the energy absorption by bottom structures. Finally, FEM software-DYTRAN is used to simulate grounding and analyze energy absorption by the bottom plate in three primary failure modes subjected to a given impact speed. To compare results of numerical simulations with the calculations by the quasi-static formula, the different of the energy absorption by bottom plates will be discussed.
