碩士 / 國立臺灣科技大學 / 機械工程系 / 89 / Due to its ability to provide highly accurate 3-D position information, the Global Positioning System (GPS) has been used widely in car navigation systems. Current car navigation system usually place its database and route calculation function in the onboard computers, which has resulted in higher computation and storage requirements in hardware and lack of flexibility and real-time interactivity in system level.
In this thesis a distributed vehicle locating and navigation system based on wireless communication and Internet technologies is proposed to provide mobile users with real-time optimal route guidance and position monitoring functions. With the use of distributed architecture , computation demands in the remote client end is greatly decreased and convention. Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) can be utilized to realized personal navigation systems. The system can be divided into three subsystem : Optimal Route Provider locates on a Internet-based server ; Message Server transmit messages between the wireless data network and Internet, and Palm that accepts user input and displays route guidance information received from remote server.
For the system implementation, GSM/SMS is used as the wireless communication method, and the TCP/IP based Message Server and Optimal Route Provider is placed on the NTUST Computer Network. The navigation system functions such as optimal route and current position display, road name display, maneuver instruction, and off-route warning, are provided by Palm. Actual road tests demonstrate very satisfactory results and show the huge potential of the proposed system.
