碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 國際企業研究所 / 90 / ABSTRACT
This study aims to explore the antecedents and consequence on the green activities of overseas subsidiaries of MNCs. We propose variables that can be categorized into two dimensions to explain the involvement of green activities of overseas subsidiaries. One dimension is the environmental characteristics of host country, which includes government environment-protection regulations, pressure groups, the fitness of suppliers, the competitions of competitors, and the requirements of main customers. The other dimension is firm-specific characteristics, which includes the executive supports and environment management abilities of parent corporation, the strategic importance of the subsidiary, the complexities of activities, and the equity structure.
The 101 effective samples collected from 583 Taiwanese firms, which are listed Top 1000 manufactory firms and have invested abroad. There are four main findings based on the empirical study. First, the involvement of green production activity of overseas subsidiary is positive related to the fitness of local suppliers, the higher local competition, the higher requirements of main customers, the higher level supports form top management of parent corporation, and environment management abilities of parent corporation. In other ways, the involvement of green production activity of overseas subsidiary is negative related to the loose degree of government environment-protection regulations and the strategic importance of subsidiary. Second, the involvement of green R&D activity of overseas subsidiary is positive related to the higher pressure from local pressure groups, the higher local competition, the higher requirements of main customers, the higher level supports form top management of parent corporation, and environment management abilities of parent corporation. Third, the involvement of green marketing activity of overseas subsidiary is positive related to the higher pressure from local pressure groups, the higher local competition, the higher requirements of main customers, the higher level supports form top management of parent corporation, the environment management abilities of parent corporation, and the complexities of subsidiary operation activities. Forth, as for performance, green R&D and marketing activity are both positive related to firm’s non-financial performance.
