Photocatalytic Degradation of Ammonia with Titanium Oxide (TiO2) in Aquaculture / 以二氧化鈦光觸媒進行養殖水中氨氮之光催化降解

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 熱帶農業研究所 / 90 / This study used UV/ TiO2 oxidation processes to reduce ammonia in water, reducing its damage on the aquatic organisms under the high density culture. Reduction of ammonia in water enabled the increase of the density of aquaculture, thereby increasing its production.
As a potocatalysts, Titanium Oxide (TiO2) was used in photocatalytic degradation to examine: TiO2 dosages, pH values, anionic in water, temperature, light intensities, different concentrations of coating solution, etc. The results showed that after 24-hours exposure to UV light, TiO2 at a concentration of 0.05 % was found to give an optimal degradation rate of 47.4% and the most significant degradation effect on ammonia was at pH 5.6~ 9.3 with pH 7.5 providing the best result.
Moreover, under the condition of anionic SO42- and PO43-, the use of TiO2 could facilitate the reduction of ammonia in water. There was a positive correlation between the temperature and the degradation rate; the higher the temperature, the better the photocatalytized. When the coating concentration was set at 0.5%, the degradation of ammonia was 47.4%. In addition, under the solar light condition, the amount of TiO2 used was 0.05%, the amount of photon accumulated was 8306hr.uw/cm2, and the degradation rate of ammonia was 65.6%. Also, when a self-made photocatalyst reactor was used in the study of aquaculture ecology, the hourly mortality of newborn fry in the test group was lower than that of the control group.
This study showed that using TiO2 as photocatalyst significantly decreased the damage to newborn fry caused by the presence of ammonia in water. Further study is needed to examine the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation, and to improve the reactor to increase its photocatalytic efficiency so that it can be applied to water treatment in commercial aquaculture farms.
