碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 應用經濟研究所 / 90 / Some coastal and inshore traditional fisheries are changed to recreational fisheries in Taiwan. Traditional fishermen are switching to operate recreational charter boats. The operating profit is the most important factor affecting fishermen’s decision regarding to operate recreational charter boats. Thus, the purpose of this research is to analyze the performance and cost function analyses for recreational charter boats. This study uses Taiwan’s fishermen economic survey date from 1997 to 1999. The performance analyses include the change of operating cost structure, profitability analysis and break-even point analysis. Moreover, the study uses Cobb-Douglas model to analyze the important factors which affect the operating costs. Then, the translog cost function models are used to analyze the relationship of the production factors. The results can provide some information to the traditional fishermen for their decisions in changing to operate recreational charter boats and to adjust business operation. The conclusions of this study are as follows: first, for the costs of the full-time recreational charter boats, the percentage of the salary and insurance were increasing but the percentage of the service was decreasing gradually year by year. Second, the costs of the part-time recreational charter boats, the percentage of the depreciation cost was increasing and the percentage of the service cost was decreasing year by year. Third, when factor prices were changed, the price elasticities for the service, insurance and depreciation factors were elastic for the 0 to 20 tons of the recreational charter boats while the price elasticities of the salary and navigation factors were elastic for the 20 to 50 tons of the recreational charter boats. Fourth, when the full-time recreational charter boats factor prices were changed, the price elasticities of the salary, navigation and depreciation were elastic. When the part-time recreational charter boats factor prices were changed, the price elasticities of the service and insurance were also elastic.
