Kuroneko Tkyubin of YAMATO Transport; A Case Study / 大和運輸之黑貓宅急便:日本企業成功轉型的個案研究

碩士 / 淡江大學 / 日本研究所 / 90 / YAMATO Transport Co., LTD. established over 80 years, is the most vintage transportation company in Japan. However, because of the long history, there have been many obstacles that had to be overcome. In fact, after World War II, YAMATO was in a pinch because of the first CEO’s wrong estimation. In order to overcome this setback, the second CEO, Jr. Ogura decided to adopt the experience of American transportation company, UPS, and started its door-to-door service. After making lots of efforts, the new “Takyubin” enterprise was finally on track, it revolutionized how Japanese send packages, it combines service with home-delivery, a brand new business was started. In the thesis, using the case studying way to analyze the development and transformation of YAMATO. Regarding changes, there are three periods to describe and discuss. First, how the first CEO operated the company. Second, what changes were made by the second CEO, Jr. Ogura. Third, the new problems that YAMATO faced with in the 1990s. The development and transformation of YAMATO are analyzed from not only a historical angle, but also Jr. Ogura’s management idea. In addition to Jr. Ogura’s leadership: integration of his vision, execution, and action, the thesis shows how he improved employee’s morale and identification, and how YAMATO were able to stay as the leaders in this particular industry. As a result, this successful case is explored from different angles.
