碩士 / 淡江大學 / 國際事務與戰略研究所 / 90 / Synopsis:This thesis is to deal with the influence of submarines to cross-strait military security. The objectives of the research are summarized as follows: 1.To address the relationship between submarine and sea power.2.To study the influence of submarine to naval warfare and its role in sea battlefield deterrence.3.To study enemies’ submarine military structure and their potential way to attack Taiwan.4.To analyze the effects of submarine toward cross-strait security.5. To analyze the influence of future submarine to cross-strait security.The research method of this thesis is based upon documentation analysis and content analysis. In addition, the writer also analyzes and synthesizes systematically the influence of sea power to national security, which is done by reviewing the history of sea battlefields, by the understanding of the strategic role of submarine troops in the navy, by the study of related documentation and reports, by the modeling of enemies’ potential strategies attacking Taiwan, and by the analysis of the influence of submarine to cross-strait. Moreover, the writer also addresses constructive ways to establish submarine military power, then concludes by explicating submarines’ benefits to defense technology and industry. On the whole, this thesis consists of six chapters which could be summarized as follows.Chapter 1: Introduction-Overview of research motifs, objectives, methods, scope, applicable documentation and nomenclatures.Chapter 2: Submarine and Sea Power-Review of Sea power’s interrelations with national security by theoretic studies of sea power.Chapter 3: Submarine and Warfare-Review the latest technologies of contemporary submarines and naval combats, the exploring the influence of submarines to naval combats.Chapter 4: Role of Submarine Troops in Defensive Warfare-From strategic threat, sea deterrence and positive attack points of view, the role of submarines in defensive warfare is analyzed. Chapter 5: Mainland China’s Potential Warfare attacking Taiwan-By the studies of Mainland China’s military structure and power, the writer analyzes every possible deterrence ways such as frigates deterrence, submarine deterrence and torpedo deterrence.Chapter 6: Influence of Submarine to Cross-Strait Security-According to our anti-submarine military power, the writer addresses countermeasures to deter enemies’ potential attacks. The impact of submarine acquisition to cross-strait security is also explicated.
