Chinese Painting is an art of “High Symbolism and Entrusting emotion to the object.” Besides the presentation of the painting, it contains deep cultural emotion and philosophy meditations. It entrusts strong personal emotion to objects, reflects the inner feeling and transition of epochs, combines art and life, and makes the art a living and the living an art.
This thesis is themed by creation of painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish) due to its high symbolism. Basing on the emotion of “Human and Fishize”, this thesis investigate the reaction of the traditional lives during the society transition. Combining the traditional Chinese water ink painting and western techniques, I devote to the creation of the theme. I am hoping that, with new energy, I can present an extraordinary work to open up personal drawing vocabulary under my present background and environment. Therefore, based on this thought, I make the research regarding this creation. The following is the brief description of the research structure.
Chapter 1The Preface includes the motivation and objective, scope and limitation, method and vocabulary definition in this research.
Chapter 2From the documents, investigation of the symbolization in the painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish) and the view point of Confucians, Buddhism and Taoism toward lives are made. From the symbolization of Fish and Algae painting, this chapter interprets deep philosophy meditation of Chinese opinions toward life transcendence and nature transcendence.
Chapter 3This chapter intends to deeply investigate the origin and style of painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish) to understand that why the symbolism is the most important characteristic of Chinese culture and to the true core of symbolic meaning as well.
Chapter 4The understanding of contemporary Fish and Algae painting (Direct Translation from Painting Fish) artists is treated as the nutrition of personal creation and enlightenment of concepts.
Chapter 5This chapter illustrates the creation concept and processes of my painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish). The first part generalizes the style of painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish) for the references of creation experiences. The second part describes the combination of Easter esthetics and surrealism and the usage of symbolic and empathic methods to practice the concepts. The last part finally describes the processes of creation.
Chapter 6From the work appreciation, this chapter illustrates the personal creation concept and material, the application of techniques, and the implied meaning under the symbolism.
Chapter 7The conclusion section, thru the understanding of relation between Painting fish(Direct Translation from Painting Fish) origin and Eastern esthetics, the picture image, and symbolism, lead to personal creation which hopefully will reflect the inner feeling and transition of epochs.
