碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 管理科學研究所 / 91 / The purpose of the multi-facet foreign investment is to enhance the performance of parent company. Due to many of Taiwanese firms invested in China simultaneously in 1990s, the performance is doubt. Thus, to discuss the model of “ Headquarter Marketing- Subsidiary Shipping” that the basic model Taiwanese firms adapted to impact the profitability of parent companies could solve this problem. However, the integrated strategic thinking is needed for foreign direct investment of parent companies. Therefore, this study also discussed which factors will affect the profitability of the parent company.
The study conducted a penal data to collect 5 years financial information from the 191 listed companies in Taiwan and by Shazam statistic analysis. Major findings of this study are:
1. the higher ratio of finished goods purchased on cost of good sold, the better of the performance on the firm which have direct foreign investment for production transfer. This is more obvious for the firms which have higher ratio of foreign sales.
2. the higher research and development expenditure, production equipment investment on the parent firm will be beneficial for the long term performance which the firm transfer the existing production to foreign subsidiary.
3. The higher investment scale in China of Taiwanese firms, the worse of performance and growth rate of the firms.
To follow the finding, the study proposed the framework for the integrated production capability transferred and suggested three main issues to keep performance and growth: production capabilities transferred to foreign subsidiaries, increased research and development expenditure for new skill development, and keep the production facility state of art.
