Toxicity assessment of nitriles using a close-system algal test / 以密閉式藻類毒性試驗評估腈類有機物之毒性

碩士 / 國立交通大學 / 環境工程所 / 91 / The effects on algal (Raphidocelis subcapitata) inhibition of 12 nitriles were recorded by using a close-system BOD bottle test, the QSAR relationships
with other mechanism of toxic chemicals were also discussed.
The toxic test was ended based on DO and growth rate methods. The cell density difference was used to calculate the growth rate. EC10 values were calculated using the optimal model chosen from G-test. Weibull is the best fitting model to experimental results.
In this study, the toxic effects caused by halogen-substituted group were found to related to the numbers and types of substitute. With increasing of the halogen-substitutent, substances were found more toxic to algal. The bromine substitutent seems to have larger toxic effects than chlorine substitutent does. When compare with other species, BOD bottle test shows a higher sensitivity and a good correlation with the Tetrahymena assays. Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) were established between the EC50 values and chemicals’ ELUMO value, and a highly predictive one-variable QSAR model was obtained.
In addition, a cut-off value approach is proposed to determine whether NOEC or EC10 should be chosen for estimating low toxic effects. The results indicate that NOEC and EC10 choice might be affected by measurement parameter. This finding is not constituent with previous study.
