Effects of Season and Altitude on the Flower Quality of Colored Tuberose Hybrids / 季節與海拔對有色系夜來香開花品質之影響

碩士 / 國立嘉義大學 / 農學研究所 / 91 / The tuberose (polianthes tuberosa) originate in Mexico and is one of the most important cut flowers in tropical and subtropical areas. The commercial production of cut flower of tuberose in winter has been success well in Taiwan. In this study, the influences of altitudes, cultural season and fertilizers on the characteristics, anthocyanin content and anthocyanidin component in petal of the colored tuberose hybrids were investigated.
The plants of cv. Chia-Nong ‘Pink Single’ was grown in open field at different seasons in Chiayi. The flower was light colored and had lower anthocyanin content in summer (during July to September), while the dark colored flowers in autumn and winter (during November to February) contained light anthocyanin.
The plants of cvs. Chia-Nong ‘Lady Jewel’, Chia-Nong ‘Bright Jewel’ and Chia-Nong ‘Parple Jewel’ were grown at four different altitudes in Pingtung, Chiayi, Hsinshe and Tapan. Days from planting to flowering in Pingtung (altitude = 25M) was the shortest. The flower color grown at Chiayi and Pingtung hade insignificantly different. The outer perianth of Chia-Nong ‘Parple Jewel’ grown at Tapan that appeared white, while the perianth of flowers Chia-Nong ‘Lady Jewel’ were dark purple. cv. Chia-Nong ‘Bright Jewel’ being white flower that had no anthocyanin. The anthocyanin content of cv. Chia-Nong ‘Lady Jewel’ at Chiayi was higher than that at other altitudes. The anthocyanin content of flower of cv. Chia-Nong ‘Parple Jewel’ grown at Pingtung was less than that at other altitudes. The flowers of both Chia-Nong ‘Lady Jewel’ and Chia-Nong ‘Parple Jewel’ lines had delphinidin and cyanidin, in addition the ratio of delphinidin to cyanidin content increased with increasing altitude.
The flower color among these fertilizer or altitude treatments had no significant difference. The anthocyanin content of both Chia-Nong ‘Lady Jewel’ and Chia-Nong ‘Parple Jewel’ was significantly different. The plants grown at Chiayi and Tapan that had delphinidin and cyanidin which were insignificantly different. It is concluded that for commercial production of colored tuberose with good quality, both season and site selection should be carefully considered.
