Study on the p-aminobenzoic acid requirements of juvenile hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus) / 探討吳郭魚稚魚之對胺基苯甲酸需求

碩士 / 國立海洋大學 / 食品科學系 / 91 / The study was aimed at quantifying the optimal p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) requirements of juvenile hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus ´ O. aureus). Purified diets with 8 levels (0, 40, 80, 120, 200, 400, 800, 1200 mg/kg diet) of supplemental PABA were each fed to triplicate groups of tilapia (mean initial body weight: 0.65 ± 0.01 g) for 8 weeks. Fish fed diets supplemented with 400 and 800 mg PABA/kg had higher (p<0.05) weight gain percent and feed efficiency than fish fed diets with ≦40 mg PABA/kg. Protein efficiency ratio was higher in fish fed diets with 200-800 mg PABA/kg than fish fed diets with ≦80 and 1200 mg PABA/kg. There were no differences in hepatosomatic index, plasma transaminase activity and survival among the dietary groups. Higher hepatic PABA concentration and lower hepatic lipid peroxidation were in fish fed diets with ≧400 mg PABA/kg than fish fed diets with ≦40 mg PABA/kg. Fish fed diet with 1200 mg PABA/kg had higher intestinal folate concentration than fish fed the unsupplemented control diet. Analysis by polynomial regression of the weight gain percent and by broken-line regression of hepatic lipid peroxidation concentration indicated that the optimal dietary PABA requirement for tilapia is approximately 465-606 mg/kg diet.
