This research aims at investigating temporal and spatial distribution of planktonic copepods at twelve sampling stations in coral reefs of Ken-ting. Meanwhile, the feeding impact of copepods on phytoplankton was carried out from November 2001 to January 2003. In all stations, 141 species of copepods belonging to 4 orders, 22 families and 45 genera were identifide. Copepods of Oncaea media、 Oncaea venusta、 Clausocalanus furcatus、 Temora turbinata、 Temora discaudata、 Farranula gibbula、 Paracalanus aculeatus and Paracalanus parvuswere were the most dominant species.
After using ANOSIM, MDS and Cluster to analysis of the data, we found significant correlation between copepod abundance and its temporal distribution.
The feeding impact of copepods on phytoplankton was higher than any other reported studies in Taiwan. The feeding impact of copepods on phytoplankton was between 0.15 %~29.70% per day of coral reef in environment of Ken- ting.
