Studies on the taxonomy and distribution of the deep-sea Dendrobranchiata Decapoda in the waters adjacent to Taiwan / 台灣周邊水域深海十足目枝鰓亞目的分類與分布研究

博士 / 國立海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 91 / 1.This thesis is based upon a taxonomical study on the deep-sea Dendrobranchiata (Decapoda: Crustacea) found in the waters adjacent to Taiwan. Emphases were laid on the morphological characteristics of the species, as well as their geographical and vertical distribution, identification key, and synonymy. The main purpose of the present study is to establish basic information for the species identification, ecological conservations, exploitation of resources, etc., of the macruran decapods.
2.The Dendrobranchiata occurring in Taiwan waters is comprised of 140 species, belonging to 7 families and 39 genera. Among them, about 70 species or 50% of the total, either benthic or pelagic, inhabit in waters deeper than 200 m. While 14 species or 10% of the total, are distributed both in bathypelagic and bathyal layers deeper than 1,000m.
3.The Dendrobranchiata is composed of two superfamilies: Sergestoidea and Penaeoidea. For the former, the author sampled and described 21 species (1 new species and 17 new records included). For the latter, 5 families and 110 species were recognized including Penaeidae (16 genera and 56 species), Aristeidae (8 genera and 12 species), Solenoceridae (7 genera and 21 species), Benthesicymidae (3 genera and 10 species), and Sicyoniidae (1 genus and 11 species). For each family of the Penaeoidea, the author described and provided information on distribution and ecology of at least one deep-water species that is of commercial importance or new to Taiwan.
4.The author described and discussed the luminescent organs of the deep-sea shrimps (Caridea included), the mouthparts and their functions, and the use of branchiae formula in the classification of higher taxa among the Dendrobranchiata.
