The study on subject and citation analysis of articles in Library Science core journals cross of Taiwan Strait between 1999-2001 / 1999-2001年海峽兩岸圖書館學核心期刊論文主題及引文之分析研究

碩士 / 淡江大學 / 資訊與圖書館學系 / 91 / The object of this study is to assess the trend of subjects and the characteristics of research literature by analyzing the keywords and citations in library science core journals cross Taiwan Strait in 1999-2001. The study is divided into two parts: First to understand the trend of subjects and commented the relation of library science and other scientific disciplines. The second observed citations in core journals in order to comprehend the condition of references cited.
19 library science core journals was identified including The Journal of The Library Science In China and Journal of Educational Media & Library Sciences , etc. There were 7016 articles, 38293 citations and 19073 keywords in total, and the average number of articles in each issue in Taiwan (7.16 articles) is lower than in China (25.98 articles). The study concluded the followings:
1. Cross Taiwan Strait, the subject trends of research topic were similar. “Internet”, “Libraries of various types” were the most popular subjects, while “cataloging” was a declined research area.
2. In broad term, “Social Science” and “Applied Science” were disciplines close to library science. In specific term, “Education” and “business administration” were the major.
3. The development of terminology was different. China emphasized “innovative”, Taiwan laid stress on “place name”
4. In terms of citation, the average number of citation per article in China was lower than in Taiwan, there were 4.76 and 18.18 respectively. The ratio of articles without citations in China (17.88 %) was higher than Taiwan (1.37%).
5. Journals were the predominant type of publication listed in citations. The ratio was 49.65% in Taiwan and 62.36% in China.
6. The ratio of Chinese to foreign literature in citations was 1 to 2 in Taiwan, among them the ratio of Chinese literature was 33.19% and the foreign one was 65.01%. The situation in China made a great difference, the ratio of Chinese literature was 90.21%.
7. In terms of citation age, the mean age of citations was 1 to 2 years in China and 1 to 3 years in Taiwan. The same situation with literature cited in Chinese cross Taiwan Strait.
Finally, the study proposes the following suggestions:
1. Collaborative publication patterns need to be established cross Taiwan Strait.
2. A Standard of electronic document descriptive format is required.
3. More meaningful words should be used in titles.
4. Peer review and edit process should be improved in China.
5. Library science researcher in China should put attention to the concept of citation.
6. Since the difference of vocabulary used in China and Taiwan, a comparison list should be developed as soon as possible.
