碩士 / 長榮大學 / 經營管理研究所 / 92 / The purpose of this study was to develop a stated preference design by incorporating Hierarchical Information Integration (HII) for investigating the affecting factors that shippers and forwarders choice of carriers. Further, this study constructed a stated preference model to explain the choice behavior of shippers and forwarders and analyze the importance of affecting factors.
Through the findings of primary analysis of T-test and mean values, it was found that the factors considered by shippers were not different between choosing carriers and forwarders. Thus this study categorized the decision behavior of shippers’ choice of those two kinds of carriers (including sea carriers and forwarders) separately into one type decision behavior of shippers’ choice of general carriers.
Besides, the major findings of this study also as follow:
1. Through the results of Factor Analysis (FA), the factors that affect shippers’ choice of general carriers can be categorized into four major factors, those were reliability, image and financial affairs of carrier, service ability, and Bill of Lading efficiency.
2. Same as shippers, the factors that affect forwarders’ choice of carriers also can be reduced into four factors by Factor Analysis (FA), they were communicating ability of active and specialty, reliability, performance and image of carriers, and shipping rate.
3. Through the results of Regression Analysis (RA), it can be seen that the shippers considered the service ability of general carriers into the most important factor while making a choice decision, however, the importance of shipping rate was ranked as the least one by shippers. Different with shippers, the forwarders ranked the shipping rate as the top one factor in their choice decision of carriers, and the second one factor was the shipping space obtained; however the performance and image of carriers was ranked as the least important factor by forwarders.
4. The format of questionnaires designed by applying the concept of Hierarchical Information Integration was different from usual, the respondents might be difficult to understand and response the questions. As the result, design the questionnaires easily for respondents should be one of the important topics in the future study.
