An Evaluation of Strategic Alliance in Container Terminals in Kaohsiung Port / 貨櫃碼頭策略聯盟之研究--以高雄港為例

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 交通管理學系碩博士班 / 92 / This research aims to examine the key factors affecting the carriers’ intention of strategic alliances in container terminals in Kaohsiung Port. Results indicated that the five most important items of perceived attractiveness of strategic alliances in container terminals from a container carrier’s perspective were increase the utilization of berth, increase the utilization of yard, reduce the operational cost, increase the efficiency of equipment, and resolve the problem of length in berth in order to meet the development of large vessels. For perceived factors, compatibility of information system was ranked as the most important item affecting carriers’ intention of strategic alliances, followed by top management support, compatibility of operation, communication, and terminal location. According to the results of a structural equation model (SEM), the research confirmed that perceived attractiveness was positively associated with carriers’ intention of strategic alliance, while perceived factors had a negative effect on carriers’ intention of strategic alliance in container terminals. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings on strategic alliance in container terminals are discussed.
