碩士 / 國立暨南國際大學 / 比較教育學系 / 92 / Since World War II, university integration has been a common phenomenon in Europe and America. In the 1990s, this trend has affected many Asian countries, such as Japan, Mainland China, and Taiwan. After the mid-1990s, calls for university integration have appeared in the official papers in Taiwan; reform of higher education has also been initiated by the government in Mainland China in the last decade. The patterns of higher education reform adopted in Mainland China include joint development (gongjian), restructuring (tiaocheng), cooperation (hezuo), and merger (hebing).
The main concern of this study is the merger of universities in Mainland China and Taiwan. The research methods used in this study include: document analysis, historical research, field interview, and comparative study. The samples chosen in this study for field interview and comparison are Chiayi University in Taiwan, and Zhejiang University in Mainland China. The main purposes of this study are as follows.

respectively, and the strategies they adopted in
tackling those problems.

University and Zhejiang University, respectively, and
to find out problems they are facing after merger.
E. To propose suggestions as references to the decision
making related to the merger of universities in the
future.
This thesis is divided into six chapters. First, it starts with an introduction, explaining the motives, purposes, methods, and procedure of this research.
