碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 自然資源管理研究所 / 92 / Vegetation survey was carried out at Northern Coastal Range in Hualien. Floristic composition and environmental data were recorded for 41 quadrats from natural forest stand. Among those quadrats, 30 quadrats were selected from relative undisturbed natural forest for vegetation analysis. Important value index (IVI) was calculated for each plot and detrended correspondence analysis (DCA) was applied to identify the main environmental factors that differentiate the vegetation types. Forest vegetation types were then classified using the two-way-indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) method.
Based on the survey data, there are 104 families and 365 taxa of vascular plant, including 77 taxa of Pteridophyte, 231 taxa of Dicotyledon, and 57 taxa of Monocotyledon. There are 7 rare plant species, they are: Habenaria polytricha, Ficus tannoensis, Bostrychanthera deflexa, Cinnamomum macrostemon, Casearia membranacea, Lomariopsis spectabilis, Ficus benjamina. Detrend correspondence analysis indicated that environmental factors in decreasing importance were: altitude, whole sky light space, direct sky light space, stoniness of soil, slope, and topography. Classification based on the two-way-indicator species analysis resulted in 3 vegetation types, they are:
Dendrocnide meyeniana ─ Ficus irisana type
Ficus ampelas ─ Machilus japonica var. kusanoi type
Machilus thunbergii ─ Castanopsis cuspidate var. carlesii type
With the aid of past vegetation survey report at Central Range mountain in central Taiwan, this study area could include residual forest vegetation type of Quercus lower zone, Machilus-Castanopsis zone and Ficus-Machilus zone. This study also indicated that floristic composition of the Northern Costal Range is different from the vegetation of the Southern Coastal Range possibly due to different climatic characteristics.
